SECURITY PRINCIPLE AS PER VEDIC UPANISHAD

Kathopanishad throws light on a key security principle as to how one has to keep vigilant even while others are asleep. This Vedic canon of security definitely will help especially in the context of protecting the safety and security of any country.

SVARA MARKING OF UDATTA, PRACAYA AND SVARITA TYPES IN VEDIC TEXTS

In the Vedic Tests which are currently in use only anudatta (अनुदात्त) and Svarita (स्वरित) (without any distinction of its type) are Svara-marked. For example, this applies to the Vedic Texts of Taittiriya Sakha (तैत्तिरीय शाखा) of Krishna Yajur Veda (कृष्णयजुर्वेद:) in both Grantha and Devanagari Lipis. In the Vedic Texts there are no Svara Markings for Udatta (उदात्त), Pracaya(प्रचय) and Svarita (स्वरित) types like Jatya (जात्यः), Kshaipra (क्षैप्रः), Prashlishta (प्रश्लिष्टः) Abhinihita (अभिनिहितः), Tairovynjana (तैरोव्यञ्जनः), TairovirAma (तैरोविराम:), Padavrtta (पादवृत्तः), tathabhavya (ताथाभाव्यः). It is important to publish Veda Samhita, Brahmana, Aranyaka and Upanishads with the Svara markings of Udatta, Pracaya and Svarita types also as presented above. This would ensure clear-cut undertstanding of the Veda Svaras.

REVIEW OF THE BOOK “ THE UPANISHADS DEMYSTIFIED” BY SHRI. VED PRAKASH BHATIA

Shri.Ved Prakash Bhatia deserves all appreciation for his painstaking and nicely presented work titled “The Upanishads Demystified “. He has vividly brought out the essence of  eleven major Upanishads covering Isa, Kena, Katha, Prasna, Mundaka, Mandukya, Taittiriya, Aitareya, Chandogya, Brihadaranyaka and Svetasvara Upanishads. He has lucidly explained  the key philosophical concepts  in terms of Brahman, Atman, Avasthas, Omkara , Panca Kosa, Panca Bhuta and so on. He has also presented interesting and meaningful stories from the Upanishads.  He has beautifully touched upon the ethical values as embedded in the Upanishads. He has been greatly successful in simplifying the complex nature of the  contents of the Upanishads which represent the treasure of the wisdom of our revered Rishis. This excellent book will be of great interest to anyone who is interested in knowing the nuances of Upanishads especially the younger generation. I urge  upon  all those interested in spirituality to make use of this remarkable work. I  wish the author all the best and  congratulate him for his tireless efforts in propagating the eternal voice of the Vedas which transcends all barriers in terms of caste, creed, race , religion or gender.

WHETHER "SAHA NAU BHUNAKTU" MEANS EATING TOGETHER?

The  traditional interpretation  is as follows:
The context is with reference to Study of VidyA.
The Sishya prays " Saha nau Bhunaktu." This means " Vidyaphalam bhojayatu" .
The Student prays to the Brahman  to grant the fruit of the vidyA to both the preceptor and himself.

WHETHER VAJRASUCIKOPANISHAD IS AUTHENTIC REGARDING PERFORMANCE OF SAMSKARAS?

VajrasUcikopanishad is a minor Upanishad which is attributed to SAma Veda.Ancient AcAryas have not quoted from this Upanishad. It is said to be popular mainly in Buddhist circles. There are stated to be different versions of this Upanishad. There is reference about vAlmiki, VyAsa, RishyaSrunga, JAmbuka, agastya, gautama and vasishtha in this Upanishad.
In a nutshell, VajrasUcikopanishad says that :
(1) JIva is not BrAhmaNa
(2) deha is not BrAhmaNa
(3) jAti is not BrAhmaNa
(4) jnAnam is not BrAhmaNa
(5) karma is not BrAhmaNa
(6) dhArmika is not BrAhmaNa
Finally in essence it means that one who has realized the non-dual Self is a brAhmanah --"advitIya Atma sAkshAtkAravaneva brAhmaNah!"
Assuming for a moment the authenticity of this minor Upanishad, regarding performance of samskAras only dharma SAstras would prevail over such texts as they only deal with the samskAras clearly from birth to death based on one's varNA and ASrama.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE TERM "SVADHYAYA " APPEARING IN TAITTIRIYOPANISHAD?

TaittirIya Upanishad declares "svAdhyAya pravacane ca" . This means that one should undertake both learning of Vedas (Veda adhyayanam) and teaching of Vedas (veda ahyApanam) besides doing brahma yajnam.

Thus "svAdhyAya" refers to learning of Vedas (Veda adhyayanam).

Meaning of the term "svAdhyAya pravacane ca" .
svAdhyayo adhyayanam !
pravacanam adhyApanam brahmayajno vA !

SRI YAJNAVALKYA JAYANTI

SrI YAjnavalkya Jayanti will be celebrated on KArtika MAsa , Sukla Paksha DvAdaSI which falls on Monday the 7th November 2011. This day is also known as YogISvara dvAdaSI. It is very important for all those who believe in Vedic tradition to remember with gratitude this great Rishi par excellence . With the direct blessings of SUrya Deva, he propagated SuKla Yajur Veda which contains the ISAvAsyopanishad. He along with his two dharma Patnis MaitreyI and KatyAyanI are referred to in BrihadAraNyaka Upanishad. His debate with GArgI, the daughter of VAcaknu stimulates the intellect. The philosophical expositions of SrI YAjnavalkya in the Assembly of Emperor Janaka are deep- rooted in spiritual knowledge which transcend time and place.
